Class Updates:
Our science adventures continued this week with the last part of our earth science unit focusing on the power of water! Student worked in partnerships to conduct an experiment to see if water is strong enough to form canyons. They created a model of a plateau and made it rain repeatedly on the plateau to see what happened. It was exciting to compare the results of different partners around the room as they learned about the concept of erosion. Not only were canyons formed, but also cliffs and in some cases complete washouts! Next week, we will begin our butterfly life cycle unit.
In reading, students have been working on doing stop and jots on sticky notes to make predictions both before and during reading. We are also beginning to work on asking questions about our books and then monitoring our reading to see if we can find the answer. The children are loving our new Big Joe bean bag chairs in the reading area. The chairs were part of our Donor's Choose project, and we are so grateful to have a cozy way to read our favorite books! Many students are also enjoying reading digital books on the MyON site.
We enjoyed a fun Scholastic News article this week about creepy creatures, which was perfect for the upcoming Halloween holiday! The kids enjoyed learning about some unique types of spiders, bats, and other animals.

The students are wrapping up their second round of personal narrative drafts in writing. They are working on their editing and using checklists to add final touches to their pieces.
In math, we are nearing the end of Chapter 2. We will be finishing up our last lesson on Monday and then reviewing for a test on Thursday, October 12th. Review pages will come home to help students prepare for the test.
