Class Updates:
We had fun watching some experiments at a Mad Science Assembly on Friday!
We have started our last unit in math, which covers geometry. Students will be learning about two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. They will also practice describing the attributes of shapes, such as the number of faces, edges, and vertices a 3D shape has.
In reading, students are about halfway through their book club books and are continuing to meet to discuss what they have read. Each child also got to pick a new book to take home from a generous donation from BJC Healthcare.
The children wrote diamante and cinquain poems this week in writing, and are now starting to publish some of their poems using Google slides and documents.
This week is our last week of spelling tests!
Each student made a "grass head" in science. We are now waiting for the grass seed to sprout to become hair on the grass head. Some of our grass heads are lying down and some are standing up. The experiment is designed to help teach the students about the importance of sunlight in helping plants to make food. Each child made a prediction about which direction the "hair" would grow in depending on the way the grass head is facing in relation to the sunlight. We are hoping they will begin growing over the weekend. Stay tuned! The students also made diagrams of the parts of a plant. They learned that the stem of a plant helps send water and minerals to all parts of the plant by observing celery and carnations turn colors from food coloring in the water.
