Class Updates:

Wow! We have been doing a lot of learning, so brain breaks are key. Check out the students enjoying a dance break.

We are halfway through out unit on time in math. Students have been working on telling time to the nearest whole and half hours. We are now starting to tell time to the nearest quarter hour and five minutes. This week will will explore the difference between am and pm as well. We will finish the remaining lessons in chapter 10 and begin reviewing for a test. The test will be on Friday, April 13th. If the students need more review the test may be pushed to Monday, April 16th.

We are continuing to learn about series books in reading. Students have been reading part of a series book everyday and have recorded their thinking about series characters on Post-Its. They are predicting, looking at character traits, and noticing how when characters do something surprising. We also read a Scholastic News article this week on wind and found out about the various types of wind and the effects wind can have on rocks, trees, and buildings.

In writing, the children are writing poems about topics that are important to them. They have learned how to listen to the sound of a poem and play with line breaks to see how it changes the sound. They are learning how to include both description and feelings into their poems.

In social studies, we are have been learning all about government. This week we studied the three levels of government: local, state, and federal. The students also learned about the three branches of federal government. We have explored who the leaders of government are. Each child made a foldable to help remember the difference between the branches of government.
