Thank you to families who have brought in snacks for MAP Testing. The students really look forward to the special snacks. So far, testing has gone well, and I am really proud of the hard work students are exhibiting! We had fun today relaxing in our pajamas at our read-in reward for completing our first week of testing.
Spring Picture order forms are coming home today. Please return them by Wednesday if you want to order pictures.
This Wednesday is an early release day with a 1:40 dismissal time. Please make sure your child knows how they will be going home that day in case it is different from the normal routine.
A few students still need to return permission slips for the 6th Grade Orientation Visit. Please send those in as soon as possible. Also, coming home today will be a field trip permission slip for a bowling field trip to celebrate the end of MAP testing.
Class Updates:
In math, we have been working on geometry and measurement concepts. Students have been learning how to classify angles, polygons, and space figures and are defining them according to their attributes. The children made "geome-tree" family tree posters to help them learn that quadrilaterals can be classified several ways. We also made three dimensional space figures and have been exploring designs with tangrams and polygon shapes. We have also been learning to convert customary measurements for length, capacity, and weight.
The students are looking forward to getting back into their reading groups now that testing in that subject is over! We will have a fun book club format for discussing books for the rest of the year. Check out some of our completed point of view posters. Students worked in groups to examine a picture and write the story from the picture from different points of view.
Coming up in social studies, we will do a project to review what the students have learned about the 13 colonies. Each student will create their own colonist complete with a background story about why they moved to their colony, what they did for a living, and where they lived. Students will also write diary entries as if they were their colonist describing the positive and negative aspects of colonial life.
