Class Update 3/15/17

Important Reminders:

This Friday is a half day of school with an 11:50 dismissal. No lunch will be served.

Spring Break is next week! Have a wonderful week off!

Class Updates:

We have been taking a break from fractions to learn about volume. The children are finding the volume of cubes, rectangular prisms, and composite figures. They enjoyed some hands on learning by finding the volume of a variety of boxes using unifix cubes.
We will have a quiz on volume on Thursday. There is a study guide and a Quizizz game on the Google Classroom for extra practice. After break, we will resume our study of fractions by learning how to multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers.

The students have wrapped up our argumentative unit in both reading and writing. The children celebrated their writing by reading each other's work and rewarding each other with certificates highlighting their strengths, such as "Most Attention-Getting Hook" or "Strongest Quote".

In social studies, our focus is learning all about the original 13 colonies. We are comparing and contrasting the New England, Middle, and Southern colony regions to see how early colonists lived, including what types of housing, occupations, and problems they faced. Differences in the geography of the regions and how that affected the colonists is also being examined.

We have been lucky to have some author visits recently, including John Martin and Scott Seegert.

Here are our completed Mars Colony projects!
