Class Updates:
Our hat day fundraiser for pancreatic cancer was a huge success! Long School raised $302 which will be donated to help find a cure. Thank you! Here's our class's hat day picture:
In math, students are learning a variety of strategies for multiplying whole numbers. The beginning of our unit has focused on basic facts, prime factorization, and writing numbers with exponents. Now, students will be using the partial products method, the Distributive Property, and traditional algorithms to multiply larger numbers. We will have a quiz on lessons 1-4 of Ch. 2 on Tuesday. A study guide was sent home with students last week.
In reading, the children are finishing up our unit on story elements. They have been working hard to identify character traits for the main characters in books, and they are now analyzing how characters can change from the beginning of the story to the end. Coming up, we will focus on summarizing what we read.
In writing, students have revised their writing to add strong ending and transitional words and phrases. They have also edited for paragraphing and correct punctuation of dialogue. Students are now in the publishing phase of their personal narratives. Our goal is to have all pieces finalized by this Friday. Some students who still need to work on editing or revising may need to complete some work at home in order to meet this goal.
In social studies, we are close to finishing our My World Projects. Tuesday will be the last day for students to work on projects in class. Any projects not completed at that time will need to be completed at home and turned in on Wednesday. Our next chapter in social studies will cover the various Native American tribes of the United States.
There is a science quiz on Tuesday on the scientific method.
