On Friday, each student was sent home with a bus route sheet from First Student bus company. Long will be adding a new bus beginning this week. If your child takes the bus, please make sure you review the sheet to see if there have been changes for your child's bus number.
When a note is sent to school regarding a change in dismissal plans, it is helpful for the office that the note includes the child's first and last names, as well as the teacher name. Thank you!
Class Updates:
In math, the children are learning about place value. They have been practicing writing both whole numbers and decimals in standard, expanded, and word form. Students have also been learning how to compare the sizes of large numbers and put them in order. This week, we will continue to look at reading and writing decimals correctly. We are about halfway through the unit, so we will be having a quiz on lessons 1-4 on Wednesday. A study guide was handed out to students last week.
In reading, the students completed genre posters. They searched through book order forms and our classroom library to find examples of ten different genres. Children also wrote book recommendations, which we will be displaying in a pocket chart organized by genre so that students can easily find suggestions from their peers that may interest them. Our lessons in class have been focused on ways to monitor our reading for both comprehension and to clarify unknown words. We are excited to begin reading groups this week!
In writing, the students have been building their writing stamina by brainstorming "small moment" story ideas that could be developed into a longer personal narrative. Topics have included stories about important people and places in their lives, as well as special first times and last times in their lives.
This week in social studies, we learned about natural, capital, and human resources. We are also studying about the regions of the United States, and the various ways a region can be defined.
